After the Vietnam War (1973-1975)
By the end of the war, the anti-war sentiment shown against the soldiers began to dissipate; instead of showing soldiers disrespect, people began to show respect for our brave veterans. This was a major shift from the emotional position of many citizens. There are multiple examples of this, one of them being the Vietnam Memorial. This was a result of time healing damage done to the veterans throughout the years; people's view of disgust of American soldiers in Vietnam began to fade. The hype that was created from the media coverage of the war was declining. More people began to realize that the soldiers that were in the Vietnam War had to face conditions that were very stressful, and began to understand their bravery. This eventually led up to people respecting our veterans from Vietnam, leading up to the respect that is still today to Vietnam Veterans. The media also began to judge the government critically, and treated antiwar protestors with sympathy, especially to students protesting against the war that were killed [30].

According to this article, over 10,000 people were coming daily to pay respect to the 57,939 Americans who died during the Vietnam War. Many people paid their respect to these soldiers in roses, tears, and prayers. People also brought back rubbings of people's names to give to their family members. People who had lost a family member or friend, would labor to find their names on this memorial. This clearly represents the huge change in attitude that people had for American soldiers that fought in Vietnam. The article describes how Vietnam Veterans have received mental disorders from the Vietnam war which cause nightmares, flashbacks of horrific moments, and violent aggressiveness. Through articles such as this one, more Veterans were able to realize that they could benefit from therapy to help diminish their symptoms, and can receive help for their PTSD. This article is supportive of Vietnam Veterans and does not focus on any of the acts that they did during the war. This shows the change in perspective of veterans that was present during the war, to one that is more caring. [32]
The above video talks about how Vietnam Veterans did not receive much of a welcome home, and shows people attempting to make up for this by providing a welcome back parade. [33]
